AIM Students Chat with the Remarkable Cory Henry

On Tuesday 6th June 2017, AIM students were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience – getting to chat with world-famous musician and songwriter Cory Henry, a member of the Grammy-winning jazz-funk-fusion group Snarky Puppy and lead singer of Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles.

As part of the Melbourne Jazz Festival, approximately 150 students packed the Peter Calvo Auditorium at AIM’s Melbourne campus for an exclusive-to-AIM masterclass, and sat in awe as Cory and his crew did their thing.

Their performance was followed by an intimate Q&A, where students were able to have their burning questions answered by a man whose incredible career started at the tender age of six, when he performed at the Apollo Theatre in New York.
Cory didn’t hold back with the invaluable advice; he deconstructed his songwriting process for the students, explaining how he transforms melody and lyrics into memorable music that people connect with.

The band treated the students to another performance after the Q&A, and two students were chosen from the crowd to win tickets to Cory’s gig at Melbourne’s 170 Russell music venue the following evening.
What an event! We’re confident all our students gained something incredibly meaningful from this masterclass, and had a fantastic time, too.
Now, they can incorporate Cory’s insight into their own learning experience at AIM, and embrace their talent and ambition. Watch this space!
